Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about therapy, insurance, scheduling, and what to expect.

How do I schedule an appointment with a therapist?
You can schedule an appointment by filling out our brief online intake form or giving us a call. We'll follow up with you directly to learn more about what you're looking for and help match you with a therapist who fits your needs, preferences, and availability.
What should I expect in my first therapy session?
Your first session is a chance for you and your therapist to get to know each other. You'll talk about what's bringing you to therapy, your goals, and any questions or concerns you might have. Your therapist will explain how they work and help set expectations moving forward. There's no pressure to share everything right away — we'll move at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
How does using my insurance work?
Aletheia is in-network with most major carriers – please see our Payments and Insurance page for the full list. When you contact us, we'll gather your insurance information and check your benefits so you know exactly what to expect. If we're not in-network with your plan, we can discuss out-of-network options and provide documentation for possible reimbursement.
How much does therapy cost if I'm paying out of pocket?
Out-of-pocket session fees vary slightly depending on the provider, but most sessions range from $100 to $175. We'll always be upfront about the cost and will talk through your options before you commit to anything. If finances are a concern, let us know — we may be able to help find a plan that works for you.
What is the cancellation or rescheduling policy?
We ask that you give at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice may be subject to a late cancellation fee. We understand that life happens, and your therapist will do their best to work with you when unexpected situations arise.
Do you offer teletherapy or virtual sessions?
Yes! We offer both in-person and teletherapy sessions. Our therapists can meet with you virtually through a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform, making it easy to get the support you need from the comfort of your home or office.
How long are therapy sessions?
Standard therapy sessions are typically 50–55 minutes. Your therapist will discuss session length and frequency during your first appointment based on your individual needs and goals.
How do I know which therapist is right for me?
When you reach out to us, we'll ask about your goals, concerns, and preferences to help match you with a therapist who's a good fit. You can also browse our providers page to learn about each therapist's background and specialties. If at any point you feel like a different therapist might be a better match, we'll work with you to make a change.
Is what I share in therapy confidential?
Yes. Confidentiality is a cornerstone of the therapeutic relationship. What you share in therapy stays between you and your therapist, with very limited exceptions required by law (such as imminent danger to yourself or others). Your therapist will explain these limits during your first session.
What insurance providers do you accept?
We are in-network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee, Cigna, Medicare, United Healthcare / Optum, VA Community Care, and Tricare. We are currently pending approval with Humana. We also provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement.
